I got the bike up to 117mph this weekend on an open road with absolutely no one on it. I'd assume that the top speed is somewhat close to that, am I right?

I do not have a speedo healer but I've pinned the needle at 140 as well.

Thanks guys...I have an '09 Ninja with the electronic dashboard, so I'm not sure how accurate it was when I hit 117mph. I would assume it's good.

Nope...it is 7% - 8% high.

The best way to tell is to calculate the distance traveled per time unit per rpm. Multiple the gear ratio out (ratio * primary ratio * final drive) and factor in the diameter of the rear (it grows a little at speed too) and then start with the max rpm in 6th gear. That's how I figure out how fast my race SV650 goes. It has about 80HP and does 140mph by the way.

I will never see 140 on the bike. I hit 120mph and that will be it. Plus unless i lose 40 or so lbs I am at a big disadvantage. (260lbs) I really should be on a bigger bike but I do not want the extra power.:headbang:

Using my SV650 gear ratios. Note the tire grows a little and I did not factor that in here. It probably grow 1/4" - 1/2" in diameter depending on the brand. But it also is squished by the weight of the bike a little making the radius smaller at the point of contact. I just left it as measured on a static wheel.

6th
countershaft 15
sprocket 45
drive ratio 3 sprocket / countershaft
primary ratio 2.088
6th gear ratio 0.851
final drive 5.330664 drive ratio * primary * gear ratio

rpm 10000

wheel rpm 1875.938907 rpm / final drive
wheel rps 31.26564846 rpm / 60

diameter in 24.5 measure
Circumference in 76.96902001 diameter * pi
ft 6.414085001 diameter * pi

speed ft/s 200.5405268 diameter (ft) * wheel rps
mph 136.7321774 converted

Sunday I was going 130mph, and then the new Mustang with the Ohio plate "ELNORE" started pulling away.

I got my bike up to 115 this weekend it was fun very intense.

It was the first time me and my friend had gotten to ride together He was running 125 I was running 115 we passed a state trooper he didn't even attempt to pull out. We road that on a mostly traffic free road for a very short distance but it was fun. I won't be riding like that all the time, but in short spurts on the right occasion there is nothing like that feeling.

I've a question...going at speeds like what you're talking about, what are the things that would most likely cause a wreck (that have only to do with you, the bike and the road, not other drivers or objects)? Blow-out?

Quick point - from comments on another ER-6 forum it's possible that the rev counter reads high as well the speedo, so you can't depend on calculations based on the gear ratios. Don't know for sure if this is true.

Rob

Good point, I am using an aftermarket tachometer and not an OEM one. I have read the stock rev counter might read a little high.
